Shopify migration FAQs
Will I lose SEO rankings when I migrate?
Not if the 301 redirects are done properly and the new theme respects or improves the previous SEO structure. Within 2-4 weeks Google consolidates the new URLs and, in many cases, traffic grows after the migration thanks to Shopify's better Core Web Vitals.
How long does the process take?
Standard migration: 10-14 weeks. Mid-size migration with ERP and multiple countries: 14-20 weeks. Complex migration with B2B and Shopify Plus: 20-32 weeks. Timelines start from the approved brief and assume we'll get access to the source platform within a reasonable time.
Will my current store keep selling during the migration?
Yes. We build a new Shopify store in parallel. Your current platform stays live until the final DNS switch. After the switch, the Shopify store is up and running. There's no real downtime.
What happens to open orders during the switch?
Orders in progress on the old platform are closed out there (fulfillment, shipping, returns). New orders come into Shopify from the moment of the switch. That's why it's important to schedule the migration outside peak campaigns (Black Friday, sales season).
What if Shopify isn't the best option for me?
We'll tell you honestly in the initial audit. For D2C brands with their own label, catalogs <50,000 SKUs and international operations, Shopify usually wins. For complex B2B, huge catalogs and specific tax rules, PrestaShop or Magento are sometimes still the better choice.
Is there a risk of data loss during the migration?
Zero loss is the minimum standard. We run several migration passes in staging before the real switch. We verify product by product, customer by customer. The real migration only runs once the test passes are 100% error-free.
How much does it cost to migrate to Shopify?
