PrestaShop to Shopify migration FAQs
Will I lose SEO rankings when I migrate?
Not if the 301 redirects are done properly. Within 2-4 weeks Google consolidates the new URLs and, in many cases, traffic grows after the migration thanks to Shopify's better Core Web Vitals. In botched migrations we've seen drops of 60-80% that take months to recover, or never recover at all. That's why the pre-migration audit phase is non-negotiable.
Will my store keep running during the process?
Yes. We build a new Shopify store in parallel. Your PrestaShop store keeps selling until the final DNS switch. The change is scheduled during a low-traffic window (the early morning hours of your historically slowest sales day). After the switch, the Shopify store goes live.
Will my customers have to register all over again?
No. We keep their emails, addresses and history. They will, however, need to reset their password on their next purchase: Shopify and PrestaShop use different hashing algorithms, so passwords can't be migrated. We send an automated email explaining the steps.
Is my order history lost?
No. We import past orders into Shopify as completed orders so you have the full history on a single platform: reporting, support, returns. The original tax invoice remains valid; the imported order is for internal records.
What about my custom PrestaShop modules?
The data gets migrated. The custom module's functionality has to be replicated in Shopify: either with an app from the marketplace that does the same thing, or with custom development in Liquid + Shopify Functions. In the initial audit we tell you which critical modules need to be replicated.
Can I keep my current design, or do you redo it?
Both options are possible. Replicating your current design in Shopify is faster and means less change for your end customers. Using the migration to redesign costs more but usually pays off if your design is 4+ years old. We'll advise you based on your case.
How long does the migration take?
Standard migration (catalog <500 products, basic integrations): 10-14 weeks. Mid-size migration with ERP and multiple countries: 14-20 weeks. Complex migration with B2B and Shopify Plus: 20-32 weeks. The initial audit tells us exactly which group your case falls into.
